WELCOMING ‘KODI’: PERTH BEARS UNVEIL MASCOT NAME

The Perth Bears have officially named their mascot ‘Kodi’ after a highly successful public naming competition that attracted more than 3000 entries.

The competition, launched in partnership with Southern Cross Austereo, invited West Aussie fans to submit their most creative and meaningful names for the club’s bear mascot. The overwhelming response showcased the community’s enthusiasm and already-deep connection to the team.

The name ‘Kodi’ (short for Kodiak, a breed of bear known for its strength and power) emerged as a popular choice among the submissions with NRL enthusiast Emma Gower providing the most compelling rationale for the name — earning her the ultimate bragging rights.

On winning the competition, Emma said: “NRL has always been a huge part of mine and my family’s life, so it felt only fitting that Kodi carries that connection into the new Perth Bears family. It’s also a great easy name for everyone to chant!”

Fans will have the opportunity to meet Kodi in person at the upcoming NRL Double Header at Optus Stadium in Perth on April 11. To meet Kodi and watch two massive NRL games here in Bear Country, secure your tickets here.
