Perth Bears put player support front and centre with key Raiders hire

In a move to establish their player-first approach, the Perth Bears are delighted to announce the signing of Canberra Raiders wellbeing manager Sam Wentworth as the club’s inaugural Wellbeing and Education manager.

Bears General Manager of Football David Sharpe said the role was one of the most critical in any club.

“Sam’s appointment ensures the support foundations are built from day one as he brings a wealth of experience in this area to play a vital role in helping players and their families integrate seamlessly into the Perth community,” Sharpe said.

“The Bears are more than simply a football team. We are a family.”

As the club prepares for the upcoming November 1 signing period, Head Coach Mal Meninga emphasised the importance of holistic player development.

“Sam is pivotal in shaping our recruitment strategy,” Meninga said.

“We want to present a career and lifestyle path for footballers and their families that is more than just playing on the field – Sam is an integral part of this.”

Wentworth said he was excited “to be a part of the Perth Bears, working alongside truly exceptional people and being a part of the Bears history”.

“We plan to build a foundational wellbeing program inclusive of players, staff, family and the Perth community, and creating a family environment will be an imperative pillar towards successful players,” he added.
